# Hosting on the CSE server

One team member needs to do the following:

1. Connect to stdlinux.cse.ohio-state.edu using ssh
2. In the terminal window enter the command: `groups`
3. You should see (among other things) something like "cse-c2231axnn" where x is your section letter (e.g., 'a', 'b', 'c', ...), and nn is your team number (a two-digit number). That's your group for the semester, and your group's project directory (where you will create your Subversion repository) is /share/CSE/project/c2231axnn. **In the instructions below, make sure to replace c2231axnn with your team group.**

Once you have identified your project directory, talk to your partner(s) and decide who will perform this last step. The chosen team member should enter the following commands to create the repository and check the results. Make sure you do not skip or mistype any of these commands:

1. `cd /share/CSE/project/c2231axnn` (where c2231axnn is your team group)
2. `mkdir git-repos.git`
3. `chmod -R 770 git-repos.git`
4. `cd git-repos.git`
5. `git init --bare`

## Adding the remote repo to Eclipse

Now you need to set up Eclipse so that it knows where the repository is. All team members must complete this section on their own computer/account. Start Eclipse and follow these steps:

1. Select **Window > Perspective > Open Perspective > Other...** from the menu bar.
2. Select **Git** and click **Open**.
3. Once the new perspective is displayed, in the **Git Repositories** tab on the left, right-click the mouse and select **Clone Git Repository...** on the menu.
4. In the **Location** area, enter

   ```
   ssh://stdlinux.cse.ohio-state.edu/share/CSE/project/c2231axnn/git-repos.git
   ```

   as the **URI** (making sure to replace c2231axnn with your team group)
5. In the **Authentication** area, enter your CSE user name in the **Username** box, your CSE account password in the **Password** box, and check the **Store in Secure Store** checkbox. Your fields should look something like this:

6. Click **Next >**. In the **Branch Selection** window, you should see the master branch already selected:

7. Click **Next >**.
8. The **Local Destination** window should now appear. In the **Directory** field under **Destination**, enter the path to the directory you want to store the repository locally (it must be an empty directory).
9. Select **Finish**.

Your team's repository should now be listed in the **Git Repositories** view.

Switch back to the **Java Perspective** by clicking the icon in the top right with the “J” (You can switch back to Git View by clicking the icon with “Git”).

## Sharing a project to the git repo

Import the `QueueOnSequence` project from the lab if you need an example project to share. The next steps will refer to the project you want to share as “the project”.

1. In the **Java** perspective and in the **Package Explorer** view, right-click on the project and select **Team > Share Project...** from the context menu.
2. In the **Share Project** window, select **Git** in the list and click **Next**.
3. In the **Configure Git Repository** window, for the **Repository** field, select the location of your local repository from the dropdown. The project to share should
4. also be selected in the list. Click **Finish**.

On the Package Explorer, you should see the git repository name and branch next to the project.

# Basic git usage in Eclipse

## Adding .gitignore

The first thing you should do is add a `.gitignore` file to your project if you haven’t already. First, setup the Package explorer to show files that start with “.”:

1. In the Package Explorer tab on the left, look at the icons on the header and find
2. the filter option. It might be in the icon with the three vertical dots.

3. In the filter options, **deselect** “.\* resources”. Click ok.
4. If your project doesn’t currently have a .gitignore file in it, right-click the project and select **New→File** and name it “.gitignore” (no quotations).
5. Copy and paste [the contents of this file](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/github/gitignore/master/Global/Eclipse.gitignore) into your .gitignore.

## Committing, Pushing, Pulling

If you need to commit, push, pull, etc., the options are can be found by right-clicking on the project and hover over **Team**  from the context menu.

Remember when committing to stage your changes using the plus (add selected file) or the double plus icon (add all files). The files you stage for the commit will show up on the box on the bottom.
